Shakespeare - At Home and Abroad
When: Thursday 07 May 2026
Where: The Gallery @ Bovey Paradiso
We’re excited to welcome two of our patrons to The Gallery on Thursday 7th May for a special fund-raising event at Paradiso—a lively conversation between historian Ian Mortimer and diaspora performance-maker Patrice Naiambana. Generously giving their time, together they will explore Shakespeare across time, culture and lived experience.
Ian Mortimer will look at Shakespeare through the social and cultural world of early modern England, revealing the context that shaped the plays. In response, Patrice Naiambana will reflect and perform, engaging with Shakespeare as an African artist who works internationally and reimagines the canon through diaspora perspectives, embodied practice, and cross-cultural storytelling.
Together, they consider how Shakespeare “travels”—how meaning changes between home and abroad, and how history, identity, and performance continuously reshape his work for new audiences.
A rich conversation for anyone interested in Shakespeare not as a fixed monument, but as a living, global experience.
Tickets are priced at £12 each + booking fee.
Please note tickets are non-refundable.
